Fasces in Wall Street

IMG_1665  A fasces was found on the statue of George Washington, in front of the Federal Hall. The fasces was passed on to the Romans by the Etruscans, symbolizing a magistrate’s power and jurisdiction. As a symbol of Roman principles, its usage has remained as the accepted governmental iconography of many governments .

On the street 20 Exchange Place there is a fasces in the top of the National City Bank. In the fasces there have two man looking at each other. I think this fasces was put there at the City Bank entrance that means mutual supervision.
